Going back home while visiting my family for my grandmother's 100th birthday celebration in Bogota, Colombia, I got a surprise gift from my cousin Johana. She presented me a purse. I was amazed with all the colors and patterns on it, it was a piece of art. For years, I couldn't stop looking at this purse every day and wondering where it came from. After researching, I discovered that this beautiful bag was created by the Wayuu Tribe of northern Colombia, so, God led me on an incredible journey to Colombia to find out more about this tribal people. On arrival in La Guajira Peninsula I immersed myself in their culture, spending time with the Wayuu Communities. I realized these bags are a reflection of their hearts and souls. Each color, each pattern, each design is one unto itself, no duplication.
